I started off by learning the simple stitches - half double crochet, etc., and before long I was a hat making machine! I kept on learning, and started working more complicated things from patterns. Then I started modifying patterns, testing for other designers and eventually started designing my own patterns. Finally, I started tech editing, helping other designers bring their creativity to life. If tech editing is something you’re interested in, find out more HERE!

I can’t believe the website has now been up and running for 5 years already! The blog has had it’s ups and downs, and I’ve learned a lot about balancing life and work and yarning. I don’t always get it right, but I try to have fun. In 2025, I hope to be a little more active than I was last year, but we’ll see what comes!

Thanks for getting to know me a little better, and I hope you enjoy your time here at Capital Crochet!

~Janine :)

Hi there! I’m Janine, the yarn-obsessed maker behind Capital Crochet.

I first started crocheting as a kid with scrap yarn from my Mom and Gramma. They always had both knit and crochet projects on the go! I didn’t have an appreciation for the wonderful world of yarncrafts back then, but I could work the tightest rows of single crochet you ever did see.

When I was expecting my daughter Violet in 2014, I got to thinking about all the hats, scarves and mittens we had as kids. We played outside a lot in the winter, and we always had our choice of handmade winter wear to keep us warm and cozy. I wanted to be able to make things for Violet, so I picked up my hook and started learning more skills.
